Parklife
… get some exercise!
It seemed a
good idea at the time. A gentle jog around Battersea Park. Take
in the sunshine, its only 5.6km they said. Rallying a somewhat unsure
‘work hard, play hard’ attitude, six members of the
Northbank Team entered the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge,
raising vital funds for the official charity, SportsAid.
With the news
that day of London winning the bid to host the 2012 Olympics, Northbank’s
team; Jodi Lewis (Captain), Ashley Lilly, Rowan Minnion, Emma Palmer,
James Parkinson, Katja Stout and Rebecca Todd, donned their Northbank-designed
T-shirts and took to the tarmac. In a touching show of unity and
an ‘it’s the taking part that counts’ attitude,
the Northbank Team immediately split up and pushed for individual
glory.
Just missing
out Olympic qualification, Rowan came in first with a time of 24.5
mins, a mere 10 minutes behind the leader. London Marathon runner
Ashley, having flown in that day from the US, shunned the jetlag,
never broke a sweat and coasted in after Rowan, tailed by a near
to exhausted and in need of trauma counselling, James, Katja, Rebecca
and Jodi dashed to the line in admirable times and Emma completed
the Northbank team finish, slightly hampered by spotting ‘networking
opportunities’ and distributing business cards.
Team captain,
Jodi Lewis did a splendid job of organising the team, ensuring there
were no pulled hamstrings and an appropriate warm-down of chilled
wine and Pringles was enjoyed by all.
Commenting
on the success of the event and her pride in her fellow team-mates
effort, Jodi was keen to point out, “Next year I’ll
be on that podium, watch out Rowan, I’m coming for you. Anyway,
I let him win this time. He probably cheated anyway.”
