Northbank Communications bangs the drum for medical innovation

Re-appointed to support Medical Futures Innovation Awards

Northbank has been re-appointed as communications consultants to Medical Futures, an initiative formed to stimulate innovation in the medical sector. This appointment follows a successful PR campaign by the Northbank team around the 2002 Medical Futures Awards, which received coverage in over 300 publications, including television, national, trade and regional press.

Northbank has been appointed to handle media relations and to stimulate coverage around the Medical Futures events. A key objective is not only to raise awareness of Medical Futures, but also the winners of the Innovation Awards. Previous winners cited the awards, and the publicity resulting from it, had given them the credibility they needed to successfully achieve partnerships and financing.

Andy Goldberg, founder of Medical Futures, commented on last year's awards: " Northbank did an excellent job to raise the profile of Medical Futures, the sponsors and the winning innovations. On the day of the Awards they were co-ordinating 10 different press releases on behalf of 10 different sponsors and their winning innovations! On the back of this effort, we were featured on the ITN News, BBC television, many of the national broadsheets and a wealth of medical press. We were delighted."

The first event of this year was the Medical Futures IP Booster, which took place on the 20 June. Visitors with ideas at varying stages of development were provided with the opportunity to network and partner with experts, including NHS Innovations as well as patent, legal, financing, regulatory, recruitment, design, marketing and communications experts.

This event was a precursor to this year's Medical Futures Innovations Awards, the winners of which will be announced on 30 October 2003. Further information can be found at www.medicalfutures.com

The Innovation Awards were developed to support innovators based in the NHS, medical sector, life sciences industry and academia to help exploit the wealth of novel ideas being developed by the medical profession and those involved in research. Entering the awards locks innovators into a valuable support network, and past winners have found that the awards have provided critical endorsement, publicity and credibility to help secure financing from potential investors as well as commercial contacts.

As part of its support for Medical Futures Northbank is the official PR and communications partner and chaired a session at the IP Booster event.
