Nordic Venture Summit, 21-22 October 2007, Copenhagen
This year's Nordic Venture Summit showcased an array of businesses from
cholesterol lowering medical devices, through advanced laboratory research equipment, to the latest in wave-powered
electricity generators. The conference had entrepreneurs from three sectors (biotech; cleantech; and
IT/Communications/Technology (ICT)) present their businesses to a venture capital audience in a pitch to raise capital.
As is the format of such Europe-Unlimited conferences, the Sunday before
the main conference is dedicated to the Venture Academy. Entrepreneurs volunteer for a gruelling day of training, coaching
and critique of their business, PowerPoint presentations and personal presentation style. Each entrepreneur then presents
to a panel of venture capitalists and communications experts - who don't pull any punches - who provide positive feedback
to help improve their probabilities of success when raising capital. Adam Michael from Northbank served as one of the
Venture Academy trainers.
The latest statistics from the organisers show that, over previous years,
around 56% of entrepreneurs raised capital within 18 months of having attended a Venture Summit.
