Welcome to the Northbank newsletter

In the life science sector as well as in the external environment Spring seems to be in the air. The biotech sector is brimming with optimism following the successful flotation of Ark Therapeutics on the FTSE with Basilea's announcement of its intention to float on SWX following fast behind. Ark was the first biotech IPO on the London Stock Exchange for over 30 months and, along with the thawing of the snows, let’s hope it brings a thawing of the financial markets.

But two IPOs and the few successful financings that have been announced to date do not, as yet, mean there will still not be tough times ahead, with some liquidations and many consolidations. By the end of 2004 there will be a new landscape created through “selection of the fittest”. We will all play a role in shaping this landscape.

Our Apologies

Apologies to anyone who on Monday 1st March was inundated with emails entitled RE: YOUR WEBSITE appearing to come from Northbank. A new worm virus variant called Netsky.D, was discovered that day. Whilst Northbank was not infected with the worm, and is rigorous in ensuring that it is not infected by nor a transmittor of computer worms and viruses, this nasty little beast managed to hijack an e-mail address - hugo_mailer@northbankcommunications.com that was embedded in the header of an e-mail that we had sent out and used it to distribute a spam e-mail that appeared to come from us. Whilst this e-mail did not contain a virus, infected recipients then propagated the e-mail and the problem. Our sincere apologies to anyone affected.

Nature magazine is read by over 650,000 scientists globally each week and, for its readers, the Product Focus section will ensure that new product news is presented in an informative and easy to read way, within the context of a focused technology area.
